Google Adwords tips & tricks

We have all heard a lot of goals and resolutions for 2018 by the people, but for businesses which use Google AdWords, those resolutions would include something about maximizing their ad budgets to get greater Return on Investments.

Following are a few AdWords tips that people must look out for in order to maximize their digital marketing campaigns in 2018:

Tip #1: Avoid Broad Matching

According to Google, a Broad Match not only lets a keyword trigger your ad to show whenever someone searches for that phrase, but also shows your keyword in similar phrases, be it in singular or plural forms, synonyms, misspellings, stemmings (such as floor and flooring), other relevant variations and related searches.  So a broad match could enable your ad campaign to show up for more keywords, but they may not really be the keywords that would convert leads for your business.

Broad Match Modified should be used if you are experienced and have tested your target keywords well.

Tip #2: Give Top Keywords Ample Budget

When you get an idea of what keywords convert best leads for your business, it is very important to make sure that your budget is being spent effectively to support those keywords.

Even if you you want to save few budget to spend it on testing new keywords, experts believe that it is always a good idea to manage your top converting keywords by putting them in their own campaign. Then, you could devote the majority of your budget to flow to that campaign so you’re investing in what works out best for you. This would also ensure that your ad spend is directed at the keywords that will perform best for your business.

Tip #3: Search and Display Campaigns should be separated

Even if AdWords offers us with the option to combine both (search network with display select), it’s always best to run these tactics separately.

There are a lot of variation between search and display performance for many accounts and so by keeping them separate you can control your budgets better. When you set up a new campaign, based on what you’re trying to target, you must make sure you choose the “search network only” or the “display network only.”

Tip #4: Negative Keywords should also be used

Adding keywords that are not relevant to your business like negative keywords can also be just as beneficial as the keywords that you’re bidding on.

Negative keywords also helps in reducing the amount of times your ad is served on irrelevant queries.  For example, if you are running a clinic that offers services in radiology, and you’re bidding on keywords which are related to radiology, but you don’t want your ad to be shown for someone searching for “radiology malpractice”.

Negatives are very important when running Phrase, Broad, and Broad Modified match types. You can also see the actual searches that trigger your ads by going to your keywords tab and clicking on the “search terms” button. If there are any searches that show up in that report that you don’t want to be advertising on, then you can add them to the negative keyword list.

In order to maintain the digital marketing and AdWords account for your business, you will have to implement a dedicated digital marketing wing in their company.  But most of the companies avoid that headache and transfer their digital marketing needs to a dedicated digital marketing comoany that caters to the digital marketing needs of their clients.
